Austin co-founded FindBetterInternet with Ali Yazdi after years of first-hand industry experience selling internet services online. That experience is the reason the site exists: providers pay comparison sites for placement, ratings get bought, and shoppers are left guessing what actually reaches their address.

“We helped build the machine that confuses consumers. It was time to build something that actually helps them.”

Austin Shrum, on why the site exists

City pages on this site carry Austin’s name in the byline. The provider rankings, the 30-second verdict and the plan tables are built from FCC Broadband Data Collection filings resolved to the census block, plus monthly checks of each provider’s published prices. The rules are written down on the methodology page, and the same rules apply to every city, whether or not a provider pays us anything.

FindBetterInternet earns a commission when someone orders service through the address check. That commission funds the site, and it never changes which provider ranks first.
