The 30-Second Verdict
UpdatedOptimum is the best overall, with fiber speeds up to 8,000/8,000 Mbps reaching about 86% of the city. Verizon is the safe fallback where Optimum fiber does not reach, mostly fiber across about 82% of the city, with its fastest common fiber tier reaching up to 2,048/2,048 Mbps in about 20%.
In 06830, including Old Greenwich, Cos Cob, and Riverside, Optimum fiber reaches about 87% of the ZIP, while Verizon fiber reaches about 8%. Back Country is similarly strong for Optimum, with fiber reaching about 85% of 06831, while Verizon’s fiber presence is about 6%. ZIP 06836 is the most Optimum-heavy, with its fiber reaching about 89%, though some addresses there have a different mix of providers. Frontier is worth checking where its fiber reaches, and fixed wireless from T-Mobile or AT&T may suit households prioritizing a simpler basic connection. Coverage can change from one street or address to the next, so confirm the exact address before choosing.

THE TAKEAWAY
Our recommendation for Greenwich
Frontier’s headline Speed Score of 87/100 signals a top-tier fiber option: Fiber 7 Gig offers up to 7000 Mbps both ways, enough for multiple 4K streams, gaming, large downloads, and busy connected households. It is well above Greenwich’s city average Speed Score of 54 and an excellent choice where available, but Fiber 7 Gig reaches only about 8% of addresses, so verify that your specific address can receive Frontier’s fiber service.
Speeds and reach below are what the provider files with the FCC for each technology tier, by census block. The plans it actually sells here, with their own speeds and prices, are under Pricing & Plans; the two can differ.
About Frontier
Frontier’s Fiber 7 Gig plan offers up to 7,000 Mbps both ways, an excellent option for busy households with heavy streaming, gaming, large downloads, and many connected devices. Its fiber lineup also includes more affordable speeds, but availability is limited to about 8% of Greenwich, so check your address first because these strong fiber options may not be available everywhere.

THE TAKEAWAY
Our recommendation for Greenwich
For households seeking affordable internet for everyday streaming, browsing, and remote work, T-Mobile offers fixed wireless service with up to 500 Mbps download and 60 Mbps upload. Its 64/100 Speed Score is above Greenwich’s city average of 54, making it a competitive option, though fixed wireless can be less consistent than fiber or cable. The 500 Mbps plans are available to about 54% of the city, so check your address and consider other providers first if you need especially consistent performance or low latency.
Speeds and reach below are what the provider files with the FCC for each technology tier, by census block. The plans it actually sells here, with their own speeds and prices, are under Pricing & Plans; the two can differ.
About T-Mobile
T-Mobile is a reasonable fit for smaller households, casual users, and people who already have a qualifying postpaid voice line and want bundled fixed wireless service with up to 400 or 500 Mbps downloads. Its fixed wireless options are adequate rather than excellent, with a Speed Score of 64/100, and the 500 Mbps plans are available to about 54% of Greenwich, so check your address before counting on service. The introductory prices are appealing, but they increase after 12 months, and homes with heavy streaming, gaming, or work-from-home needs should compare faster fiber or cable options first.

Our recommendation for Greenwich
At $40/mo for 12 months, AT&T Internet Air offers up to 300 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload, a reasonable value for a fixed wireless connection. Its 59/100 Speed Score is above Greenwich’s city average of 54, making it competitive, though fixed wireless can be less consistent than wired service. Availability is address-dependent, with this plan reaching 34.1% of Greenwich, so check your address and compare other available options if you need the most reliable performance.

About AT&T
At $40 per month for 12 months, AT&T Internet Air offers up to 300 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload, making it a reasonably priced choice for everyday browsing, streaming, and smaller households. Its fixed wireless technology has a below-average Speed Score of 59/100 and is available to about 34% of Greenwich, so performance may vary by address and could feel limiting for heavy streaming, gaming, or multiple users. THE TAKEAWAY
Our recommendation for Greenwich
Starlink uses satellite technology, offering up to 400 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload on its Residential Max plan, but satellite service typically has higher latency and more variable performance than fiber or cable. That plan has a Speed Score of 64/100, above Greenwich’s city average of 54, making it a competitive option where wired alternatives are unavailable. Residential Max is available to 100% of Greenwich, though availability and the best plan choice should still be confirmed at your specific address.
Speeds and reach below are what the provider files with the FCC for each technology tier, by census block. The plans it actually sells here, with their own speeds and prices, are under Pricing & Plans; the two can differ.
About Starlink
Starlink uses satellite internet, which reaches homes broadly and offers up to 400 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload, but its higher latency can affect gaming, video calls, and other real-time activities. All three plans are available to 100% of Greenwich, including a $130/mo Max plan, though satellite is generally a weaker choice than fiber or cable for demanding use, so check your address for faster wired options first.

THE TAKEAWAY
Our recommendation for Greenwich
At $94.99 per month for the first 12 months, then $119.99, HughesNet’s Fusion plan buys up to 100 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload over satellite, a limited-performance option for the price. Its Speed Score is 22/100, below Greenwich’s city average of 54, so consider checking what else is available at your address before choosing satellite service. Fusion is available to 100.0% of Greenwich, but actual address-level availability and satellite latency still matter for activities such as video calls, gaming, and streaming.
Speeds and reach below are what the provider files with the FCC for each technology tier, by census block. The plans it actually sells here, with their own speeds and prices, are under Pricing & Plans; the two can differ.
About HughesNet
At $39.99 to $94.99 per month for the first 12 months, HughesNet offers up to 25 to 100 Mbps downloads, but its satellite plans are below average for speed and come with the limitations of satellite service. Fusion is the strongest choice here at up to 100 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up for $94.99 per month initially, while Select and Lite cost less but provide up to 50 Mbps down and 25 Mbps down, respectively. HughesNet reaches 100% of Greenwich, but check your address for faster fiber or cable options first, since satellite may not be sufficient for demanding modern use.

Optimum is the best overall provider, with fiber up to 8,000/8,000 Mbps reaching about 87% of Greenwich. Where Optimum does not reach, Verizon is the broadest backup, covering about 82% overall with common fiber speeds up to 2,048/2,048 Mbps available to about 20%.
What is the fastest internet in Greenwich, CT?
Optimum fiber is the fastest listed internet, reaching up to 8,000/8,000 Mbps in about 87% of Greenwich. It is the fastest qualifying option by city reach, so address-level verification is essential before choosing that tier.
Which internet provider covers the most of Greenwich, CT?
Optimum has the largest non-satellite footprint at about 96% of Greenwich overall, while satellite service is available everywhere. Optimum's 8,000/8,000 Mbps fiber tier reaches about 87%, so its fastest technology covers less than its total footprint.
What is the cheapest internet plan in Greenwich, CT?
Optimum 300 Mbps Internet is the cheapest plan at $25 per month for the first 12 months, reaching about 87% of Greenwich. Confirm availability at your address because the promotional plan does not reach the entire city.

What internet is available around the Greenwich Avenue Historic District?
Optimum fiber reaches about 87% of ZIP 06830, while Verizon fiber reaches about 8%. Optimum is the strongest local starting point, but verify the exact address because ZIP-level coverage does not guarantee service at every property.
How We Analyze Internet in Greenwich
FCC Broadband Data
We use the FCC National Broadband Map, updated twice a year with provider-reported coverage at the census block level.
Speed Score
A state-wide percentile of each plan’s maximum advertised download speed against every option filed with the FCC in the state, all technologies on one scale. It is not a measured speed test.
Coverage Calculation
Provider coverage shows what percentage of census blocks in Greenwich report service availability from each provider.
Data Coverage for Greenwich
How We Calculate Speed Score
The Speed Score is a state-wide percentile from 0 to 100. It answers one question: of every internet option filed with the FCC in this state, across every technology, what share is slower than this plan’s maximum advertised download speed?
What goes in:
- The plan’s maximum advertised download speed, as the provider files it with the FCC and lists it for sale.
- Every other serviceable option in the state from the FCC Broadband Data Collection, counted by the census blocks it reaches.
Speed Score = share of the state’s filed options with a lower advertised download speed
A score of 85 means this plan’s advertised speed beats 85% of the options filed in the state. Fiber, cable, DSL, fixed wireless and satellite are all on the same scale, so a 1,000 Mbps plan scores the same whoever sells it.
What it is not: a measured speed test. It does not include latency, upload speed, reliability or congestion. Real throughput at an address varies with wiring, equipment and time of day.
How providers are ordered on this page: each provider’s tier scores are averaged across the census blocks it serves, then multiplied by the share of the city it reaches. Wired providers rank ahead of wireless-only ones, and satellite last, because their filings describe a signal footprint rather than a plant. The same rule sets the title and the 30-second verdict.
Data source: FCC National Broadband Map (Broadband Data Collection), republished roughly twice a year; provider plan lists checked monthly.
How We Calculate Capabilities
Estimated Capabilities predict how well each internet plan supports common household activities based on speed requirements and connection type.
Rating Scale:
- Excellent – Optimal performance, handles peak usage easily
- Good – Reliable performance with minimal issues
- Fair – Functional but may experience slowdowns during heavy use
- Poor – Not recommended; expect frequent buffering or lag
How We Rate Each Category:
Streaming
Based on download speed. 4K streaming requires 25+ Mbps per stream; HD requires 5+ Mbps. We account for multiple simultaneous streams.
Multi-device
Evaluates total bandwidth capacity divided by typical household device count (phones, tablets, smart TVs, computers). Fiber and cable handle many devices better than DSL or satellite.
Gaming
Considers both upload speed (for sending game data) and latency (ping time). Fiber and cable excel here; satellite connections struggle due to inherent signal delay.
Whole Home
Assesses whether the connection can reliably serve an entire household during peak evening hours. Factors in technology type (shared vs. dedicated bandwidth) and total speed capacity.
Note: Actual performance depends on your specific location, network congestion, and equipment quality.
