Find internet providers in Newark, DE

Find internet offered in Newark, DE – easily compare options from multiple providers to find the plan that best fits your needs.

FindBetterInternet was created by two guys with years of first-hand industry experience selling internet services online. Frankly, what we found left a lot to be desired. Internet providers can pay for their listings to be placed higher up the page, cookies can be captured, and your data can be shared for banner ads that stalk your online profile for the next week. We built FindBetterInternet to be different.

Our methodology translates the complex treasure trove of 115m locations on the FCC Broadband Map into one simple resource. We layer on pricing to help you sift through what’s good value.

We hope this is helpful for you and appreciate all the community’s support with this project. If you find it helpful, we do make a commission if you buy internet from a link on our address-check page. We pour that back into maintaining the site.

The 30-Second Verdict

Updated

In Newark, your best bet is Verizon, covering about 96% of the city with fiber speeds up to 2,048 Mbps, though that top fiber tier reaches roughly 59% of town. However, if it does not reach your exact address, or where its filed speeds run higher, Xfinity is the smart alternative, covering about 99% of the city with cable speeds up to 2,000 Mbps. Fiber is strong in Fairfield in 19702, where Verizon’s fastest tier reaches about 73% of the ZIP, and it holds a solid edge in 19713 and 19715 too. College Park in 19711 is more mixed, with Verizon’s top fiber at about 48% and Xfinity picking up much of the rest. Around the University of Delaware in 19716, it is nearly a coin flip, with Xfinity at about 44% and Verizon just behind, so students should check carefully before signing a lease. If neither wired option lands, T-Mobile’s fixed wireless is worth a look at up to 100/20 Mbps. Coverage shifts street to street, so confirm your exact address before you commit.

THE TAKEAWAY

Our recommendation for Newark

Xfinity reaches 98.7% of Newark, so most households here have strong odds of qualifying for service. Its top 1.2/2 Gig plan mixes fiber and cable and earns an 85/100 Speed Score, which lands above the city average of 60 and makes it an excellent choice, with speeds up to 1200 Mbps down and 35 Mbps up for $90 a month during the first year before rising to $140. Because the plans span both fiber and cable technologies, the exact connection that reaches your home can vary by address, so it is worth confirming which one serves you before signing up. Lower tiers like the 500 Mbps plan carry a much weaker 38/100 score, so aim for the gigabit options if performance matters to you.

About Xfinity

Xfinity reaches 98.3% of Newark with cable plans offering up to 1,200 Mbps download speeds, giving most residents a strong chance of getting solid high-speed internet. The best value is the 1 Gig plan at $60/month for the first year (up to 1,000 Mbps down), which scores well above average and handles streaming, gaming, and remote work easily. Just note that upload speeds max out at 35 Mbps across all tiers, and pricing increases significantly after your first 12 months.

THE TAKEAWAY

Our recommendation for Newark

Verizon’s fiber plan runs on a direct optical connection, which means low latency and steady performance for streaming, video calls, and gaming even when the whole household is online. The Internet 300 plan offers up to 300 Mbps download and 880 Mbps upload for $49.99/mo, earning a Speed Score of 74/100 that sits above the Newark average of 60, and it reaches about 94% of the city. If fiber does not reach your address, Verizon also offers a 5G Home fixed wireless option at up to 300/75 Mbps, though it covers only about 13% of Newark and fixed wireless can be less consistent than a wired fiber line. Check which technology is available at your specific address, since the fiber plan is the stronger performer of the two.

About Verizon

Verizon’s fiber service delivers up to 300 Mbps download and 880 Mbps upload for $49.99/month and reaches 93.5% of Newark, offering excellent speeds (score 74/100) with much faster uploads than most cable options. The company also offers 5G Fixed Wireless with up to 300 Mbps download in limited areas (12.6% of the city), but it requires bundling with a mobile plan and costs more at $60/month. Nearly all Newark residents can access Verizon’s fiber plan, which provides more than enough speed for streaming, working from home, and gaming.

THE TAKEAWAY

Our recommendation for Newark

Households that want a straightforward broadband setup without a wired connection will find T-Mobile’s 5G home internet a good fit, with a headline Speed Score of 73 out of 100 that lands above the Newark average of 60. The Rely Home Internet plan runs up to 400 Mbps down and 55 Mbps up starting at $35 a month with a T-Mobile line, AutoPay, and new-customer terms, while All-In Home Internet reaches up to 498 Mbps down and 55 Mbps up for $70 a month promotionally. Both plans are fixed wireless, which performs well for streaming and everyday use but can vary more than a wired line, so check availability at your address since each reaches about 62% of the city. If fiber or cable happens to serve your home, it’s worth comparing what those wired options deliver before you decide.

About T-Mobile

T-Mobile’s fixed wireless plans work well for streamers, remote workers, and typical families who need reliable speeds without a long-term commitment. Both options deliver good speeds (better than average for New Jersey) with downloads up to 400 or 498 Mbps, though uploads are limited to 55 Mbps, and the Rely plan offers an especially attractive $35/month rate if you’re already a T-Mobile wireless customer. Service is available to about 62% of Newark addresses, so you’ll want to check availability at your specific location.

THE TAKEAWAY

Our recommendation for Newark

At $55 per month promotional, then $60, AT&T Internet Air buys you up to 300 Mbps both ways over 5G fixed wireless, symmetrical speeds that handle video calls, streaming, and everyday household use. Its Speed Score of 73 out of 100 lands in the good, above average range and sits above the Newark city average of 60, making it a competitive pick where it reaches. Keep in mind this fixed wireless plan is available to about 45% of the city, so check whether it serves your specific address. Fixed wireless is reliable for most needs, though it can be more variable than wired options, so it is worth comparing what other technologies reach your home before you commit.

About AT&T

AT&T’s 5G fixed wireless plan runs $55/mo for up to 300 Mbps both ways, which is a solid value for better-than-average speeds (Speed Score 73) that should handle most household needs including streaming and video calls. The service reaches about 45% of Newark, so availability is address-dependent. Fixed wireless can be less consistent than fiber or cable in some conditions, so if you’re in the coverage area it’s worth checking, but you may want to compare against wired options if they’re available at your address.

THE TAKEAWAY

Our recommendation for Newark

Starting at $39.99 per month for the Lite plan (up to 25 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up) and running to $94.99 per month for Fusion (up to 100 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up), HughesNet’s pricing buys satellite service whose 17/100 Speed Score sits below the Newark average of 60. Every plan here uses satellite, which brings higher latency that can make video calls, gaming, and other real-time tasks feel sluggish compared to wired options. Coverage reaches 100.0% of Newark, so availability is not the issue, but with faster technologies present in this market it is worth checking what else can be delivered to your specific address before committing.

About HughesNet

HughesNet’s plans range from $39.99 to $94.99 per month (rising after 12 months), but all deliver satellite internet with speeds up to 25-100 Mbps down and a Speed Score of just 17 out of 100, meaning they’re slower than most other options in the state. Satellite technology comes with high latency that makes video calls and online gaming difficult, so you should check whether faster cable or fiber providers serve your address first. If no other providers reach you, HughesNet offers 100% availability across Newark as a last-resort option for basic browsing and email.

THE TAKEAWAY

Our recommendation for Newark

Viasat is best treated as a fallback option in Newark, where its satellite service earns a Speed Score of 17/100, well below the city average of 60. The Essentials plan runs $69.99 a month for up to 55 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up, while the Unleashed plan costs $99.99 for up to 34 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up, and satellite connections carry high latency that can hamper video calls and gaming. Both plans reach 100.0% of the city, so coverage is not the issue, but with faster fiber and cable technologies present in this market, it is worth checking what else is available at your address before committing.

About Viasat Inc

Viasat Inc is a satellite provider you should only consider as a last resort, since both plans offer speeds that score just 17 out of 100 in the state and come with the high latency typical of satellite internet. The faster Essentials plan offers up to 55 Mbps download for $69.99/month, while the pricier Unleashed plan is actually slower at up to 34 Mbps for $99.99/month. Before choosing Viasat, check whether fiber, cable, or even fixed wireless options are available at your address, as any of those would provide a much better experience for streaming, video calls, and modern internet use.

How We Analyze Internet in Newark

FCC Broadband Data

We use the FCC National Broadband Map, updated twice a year with provider-reported coverage at the census block level.

Speed Score

Our proprietary score weights technology type (fiber=100%, cable=85%, etc.) with download (70%) and upload (30%) speeds, ranked as a state percentile.

Coverage Calculation

Provider coverage shows what percentage of census blocks in Newark report service availability from each provider.

Data Coverage for Newark

How We Calculate Speed Score

Our Speed Score is a state-level percentile ranking (0-100) that shows how a provider’s service compares to all other internet options available in your state.

The Formula:

We calculate a raw performance score using:

Technology Factor × (Download Speed × 70% + Upload Speed × 30%)

Technology Factors:

Not all connections are equal. We weight each technology based on real-world reliability and performance:

  • Fiber: 100% – Fastest, most reliable technology
  • Cable: 85% – High speeds, shared neighborhood bandwidth
  • Fixed Wireless (Licensed): 70% – Dedicated spectrum, weather-dependent
  • Copper/DSL: 65% – Distance-limited, aging infrastructure
  • Fixed Wireless (Unlicensed): 60% – Shared spectrum, variable performance
  • Satellite (LEO): 40% – Low-earth orbit (e.g., Starlink), higher latency
  • Satellite (GEO): 15% – Geostationary orbit, significant latency

Percentile Ranking:

After calculating raw scores, we rank every service option in your state by geographic coverage (census blocks served). A score of 85 means this service performs better than 85% of all internet options available in your state.

Data Source: FCC National Broadband Map data, updated twice a year.

How We Calculate Capabilities

Estimated Capabilities predict how well each internet plan supports common household activities based on speed requirements and connection type.

Rating Scale:

  • Excellent – Optimal performance, handles peak usage easily
  • Good – Reliable performance with minimal issues
  • Fair – Functional but may experience slowdowns during heavy use
  • Poor – Not recommended; expect frequent buffering or lag

How We Rate Each Category:

Streaming

Based on download speed. 4K streaming requires 25+ Mbps per stream; HD requires 5+ Mbps. We account for multiple simultaneous streams.

Multi-device

Evaluates total bandwidth capacity divided by typical household device count (phones, tablets, smart TVs, computers). Fiber and cable handle many devices better than DSL or satellite.

Gaming

Considers both upload speed (for sending game data) and latency (ping time). Fiber and cable excel here; satellite connections struggle due to inherent signal delay.

Whole Home

Assesses whether the connection can reliably serve an entire household during peak evening hours. Factors in technology type (shared vs. dedicated bandwidth) and total speed capacity.

Note: Actual performance depends on your specific location, network congestion, and equipment quality.
